Remote Teaching During the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Case Study Proposal

Abstract This research will delve into the changes that the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to the teaching practices of English teachers in Buenos Aires Province. Due to the restrictions implemented by the government, many schools suffered an overnight change of modality that forced them to switch from delivering lessons in physical classrooms to working in virtual environments. A group of twelve English teachers from Escuela Secundaria 6 from General Rodríguez will be invited to participate in this research. Semi-structured interviews will be carried out to explore the difficulties the participants have encountered when giving their first steps into remote education as well as the skills needed to cater to all the pedagogical needs of their students. This research will draw on the participants’ responses to the interviews, which will hopefully help as a starting point to outline strategies to help them master suitable approaches to become familiar with and master these new teac...

First Midtem: Task 2: Moving onto Swales

Swales' Moves on a Small-Scale Study The revised Create a Research Space (CARS) model developed by Swales (1990) states that article introductions can be written by following specific organisational patterns. These organisational patterns are divided into moves named establishing a territory, establishing a niche and occupying the niche. It can be said that these moves start from a declining rhetorical effort to weakening knowledge claims and finish increasing explicitness on the topic(s) the writer is going to develop. The research paper A Small-scale Study of Primary School English Language Teachers' Classroom Activities and Problems by Arikan (2011) contains the three moves which can be easily identified. In paragraph one, the author claims centrality and makes topic generalisations on the issue he wants to develop in his paper by explaining the recent changes in Turkey's education policies and how those changes have been received. This way, steps one and two of t...

First Midterm: Teaching Skills for English Language Secondary-School Teachers from General Rodríguez

Section 1: The Research Proposal The COVID-19 pandemic aroused teachers' necessity to switch from face-to-face lessons inside real tangible classrooms to remote ones in unknown (for them) online platforms. English secondary-school teachers from the outskirts of Buenos Aires, specifically from General Rodríguez, seem to have struggled with this change of modality. Most teachers express their necessity to learn more about how to respond to the specific needs that arise while using virtual platforms since these do not correspond to the same necessities they are used to dealing with in physical classrooms. To find answers to this issue, the following questions will serve as a guide: 1.       What does the Ministry of Education provide English language teachers from Escuela Secundaria 6 from General Rodríguez with to guarantee successful remote teaching?   2.     What difficulties do English teachers from General Rodríguez face when trying to devis...
